Remember in the film when Hermione erased her parents’ memories and removed herself from all the photos? There was at least one picture that was just hermione, without anyone else in the picture. I wonder what her parents thought when they found a random framed photograph of a sofa in their house.
Doesn’t the charm mean it sort of… befuddles you a bit? Like, your brain will just default to the first logical solution. That’s what I always understood it to do, anyway, when it came upon conflicting evidence
I guess they just thought, ‘Ah yes, that old sofa - how we loved it,’ and started believing that they were hardcore sofa enthusiasts. And then they both felt a strange and unfamiliar sadness, so deep that they could not identify it, so they had no choice but to move on. They hugged each other and moved to Australia, and they didn’t know why but they could never bear to throw that photo away, after that.
Yes, or maybe they thought it was a joke from old friends, or they’d put the wrong photo in by mistake, the one where they were practising with the camera and they really must change it… once they’ve gone to America. With the photograph still in place. And if Mrs Granger sometimes finds herself going to call upstairs to someone, and then doesn’t, and then there’s an ache in her chest… well, that’s just the way life is, sometimes. It must have been the curry.
